House Lannister is one of the Great Houses of Westeros. It became the Royal House of the Seven Kingdoms when Cersei Lannister was crowned after Tommen Baratheon’s death in season 6. Their seat is located in Casterly Rock and their sigil is a golden lion on a crimson field. The official words of House Lannister are “Hear Me Roar,” not to be confused with the common saying “A Lannister Always Pays His Debts.”
The members of House Lannister at the beginning of the show were:
- Tywin Lannister. He was the Lord of Casterly Rock and the father of Cersei, Jaime, and Tyrion. He led the Lannister army during the War of the Five Kings and became Hand of the King after the Battle of Blackwater, in which Stannis Baratheon’s army was defeated thanks to him. Tywin was in control of King’s Landing and the Seven Kingdom during both Joffrey and Tommen Baratheon’s reigns. In Season 4, he sentenced Tyrion to death when he was found guilty of murdering Joffrey Baratheon at his wedding. Tyrion, who managed to escape helped by Jaime, murdered Tywin with a crossbow in revenge.
- Cersei Lannister. She is the eldest daughter of the Lannister family. She was Queen Consort of the Seven Kingdoms during her marriage to Robert Baratheon in Season 1. Cersei shares an incestual relationship with her brother Jaime, with whom she had three children: Joffrey, Tommen, and Myrcella. Cersei’s children, however, were believed to be Robert Baratheon’s. After Robert’s death, Cersei became Queen Mother during the reigns of her two sons, Joffrey and Tommen. In Season 5, Cersei was imprisoned by the High Sparrow due to her incestual relationship with Jaime and she was forced to endure a walk of shame through the streets of King’s Landing. In Season 6, she took revenge on the High Sparrow by blowing up the Sept of Baelor when he and his followers were inside. After Tommen’s death, Cersei became Queen Regnant of the Seven Kingdoms. In Season 7, Cersei tried to defend the Seven Kingdoms against Daenerys Targaryen’s invasion.
- Jaime Lannister. He is the eldest son of the Lannister family and Cersei’s twin. He shares an incestual relationship with his sister Cersei, with whom he had three children: Joffrey, Tommen, and Myrcella. Jaime’s children, however, were believed to be Robert Baratheon’s. In Season 1, Jaime was a member of Robert Baratheon’s Kingsguard. He pushed Brandon Stark off a tower after he saw him having sexual intercourse with his sister Cersei. At the end of Season 1, he was captured in battle by Robb Star’s army. In Season 2, he was set free by Catelyn Tully and initiated a return journey to King’s Landing helped by Brienne of Tarth. In Season 3, his right hand was cut off by some men from House Bolton but he finally managed to arrive in King’s Landing. In Season 4, Jaime helped Tyrion to escape from King’s Landing after he had been sentenced to death by their father Tywin. In Season 7, Jaime abandoned Cersei to fight the war against the White Walkers.
- Tyrion Lannister. He is the youngest son of the Lannister family. In Season 1, he was taken prisoner by Catelyn Stark, who believed that he sent a mercenary to kill her son Brandon. However, he was set free after Bronn won a trial by combat that Tyrion demanded. In Season 2, Tyrion became Hand of the King in the absence of his father Tywin. He was in charge of preparing the defenses of King’s Landing for the Battle of Blackwater. In Season 3, Tyrion married Sansa Stark under his father’s orders. In Season 4, Tyrion was accused and found guilty of murdering Joffrey Baratheon the day of his wedding. He was sentenced to death by his own father but he managed to escape helped by his brother Jaime. After leaving King’s Landing, he killed his father Tywin with a crossbow in revenge. In Season 5, Tyrion traveled to Essos to build an alliance with Daenerys Targaryen, who named him Hand of the Queen. In Season 6, Tyrion was in charge of defending Meereen from the slave master’s attacks in the absence of Daenerys. In Season 7, Tyrion returned to Westeros with Daenerys and counseled her during her conquest of the Seven Kingdoms.
